God Squad Raised $305!

We had such a great time on Sunday at the end of the year party!  The bounce house, bubbles and temporary tattoos were a big hit….but, so was the massive soccer game the kids had going!  It was impressive!  Thanks to everyone who came out and to those who donated food and helped out!

As promised, our God Squad kids fulfilled their end of the year charity project this past Wednesday.  Both classes raised a combined total of $305 in spare change!  RoxAnn and Liz’s class allocated their funds to the ELCA Good Gifts Project and “Animals Of God’s Global Barnyard To End World Hunger.”   The kids had so much fun constructing their barn banks, and they were so responsible to remember to bring them back in with their change!

Tom’s class used their funds to purchase items for the middle school’s PAW Pantry!  The storm warning made the Fareway trip a little shorter than planned, so I wasn’t able to get a photo of the kids shopping….but wow, look at everything they bought to donate!

I know Tom, RoxAnn and Liz are very proud of the kids’ efforts!  Thank you also to the parents for helping gather the spare change (or supplying it..ha!)  I delivered the items to the Paw Pantry today and they were very appreciative!  Most of the non-food items are gone within a day, so the need is really there!

A couple announcements:  Don’t forget to sign up for Parents’ Night Out on May 14th from 5-8 p.m. Take some time to yourself and bring the kids to church! Courtney, Nate and our youth volunteers will have dinner, snacks, games and various faith-based activities to keep the kids busy! The cost is $5 per child with proceeds to benefit our children/youth programming. If your child attends Nate’s youth group on Wednesdays, they have volunteered to help with this event–therefore there is no charge for them (please let me know if your youth student cannot make it). Nursery volunteers are needed for this event, please let Courtney know if you’re interested in helping. IMPORTANT:  If you are interested in sending your kids to this event please sign up soon. If too few sign up, the event will be cancelled. Click here to sign up.

Our kids will once again have the privilege to work with Sue Brakhane and Jim Nelson in the children’s garden on Sunday, May 22 from 9-10:20 so mark your calendars for this event!  Please send your kids in clothes that are ok to get dirty!

The sign up link for our summer cooking event and Kool-Aid and canvas event will be available this upcoming week!  Stay tuned!

Over the past two weeks our younger Sunday School kids have covered Saul to Paul, Acts 9:1-20 and Peter and Tabitha, Acts 9:36-43.  Our older students have discussed John 21:1-19 and Matthew 28:16-20.   Beth gave the younger students an intro to bell choir and they loved it!   She’s the best!

Our God Squad students have worked through the Believe unit and John 20:24-31, Matthew 28:16-20 and Acts 4:32-37.  Wednesday is the last day of God Squad for the season. Following the meal, our students will fulfill their end of the year charity project. Tom’s class is shopping for the food and PAW pantry and Roxann and Liz’s class will finish out their contribution to the ELCA’s Good Gifts program!  Last week our older kids played the “Pie Face” game.  I’m sure they came home quite messy…but it sure was fun!

All God Squad and Sunday School students are invited to our end of the year party, this Sunday from 9-10:20.  Feel free to bring the younger non-school students to this event too!  We would love to see all the kids there!   We’ll have donuts, a bounce house, temporary tattoos, bubbles, games and a craft!   I’ll have the wheel set up, and at the end of the party the kids will come inside to spin for their prize! We received some great donations for prizes from HyVee, Montross and Frostees! If we have bad weather, we’ll move as much of the party inside as we can!

My first three months working with our St. Paul kids has gone fast!  I can’t believe it!  Over this short time, I truly feel like I have been beyond blessed with amazing kids, parents and teachers!  I couldn’t do it without all of you and our wonderful congregation! THANK YOU!  See you Sunday!

Three more weeks…

Only three more weeks until the end of God Squad and Sunday School for this school year.   I’m really going to miss the kids, so I’m very glad that we are adding some summer programming!

Just a reminder that on the last day of Sunday School (April 24) we’ll have a little end of the year celebration for the kids from around 9-10:20. There will be donuts, games, door prizes and a bounce house! We would LOVE to have lots of kiddos attend!

The last day of God Squad is April 27, and as mentioned, the kids will fulfill their end of the year charity promise.  Tom’s class will head over to Fareway to shop for the food pantry with money they have saved individually and from the children’s offering.  Liz and RoxAnn’s class will partner with the ELCA Good Gifts Project and “Animals Of God’s Global Barnyard To End World Hunger.” I’m sure you’re intrigued…it’s a fun project and the kids will really enjoy it. We will send home a letter and more details regarding that on Wednesday!

Sunday school was a blast last week!  Our kids had the privilege of working with Sue Brakhane and Jim Nelson in the children’s garden!  They planted potatoes and made pantyhose peeps!  The kids will head back out to the garden on Sunday, May 22 from 9-10:20 so mark your calendars!
