Epistle #82 Friday Update!

1.  Look for the St. Paul Worship Service opportunity coming to you first thing this Sunday morning in Epistle #83. Pastor Brian will be sharing a message on Matthew 14:22-33, with the title of: “Are You Seeing Ghosts?”

2.  Congratulations to the Winterset Girls 4A State Softball Champions! On the team include our own Bailey Acton, Avary Darling, and Halle Hoefing.

3.  Get ready for the launch of our new beginnings with Pastor Ioan! Pastor’s first Sunday morning message shared with St. Paul Lutheran will be on September 6th. We are lining up two guest preachers who will be sharing sermons with the St. Paul Lutheran family in preparation (August 23rd and 30th) whom we will be introducing to you in next week’s update! Keep Pastor Ioan and family in prayer for safety and health during these challenging COVID times, as well as for guidance in home selling and purchasing, packing and travelling!

PRAYER FOR ST. PAUL AND PASTOR IOAN
God of Love, You are with us in every transition and change. As we enter into this new era with excitement and even some anxiety, we recall your deep compassion, presence, and abounding love. We thank you for the gifts, talents and skills with which you have blessed us. We thank you for the experiences that have brought us to this moment. We thank you for the work of others that gives breadth and depth to our own work. Be with Pastor Ioan and his family as they are busy these days in preparation for such change in their lives and new beginnings in partnership with us, for the sake of your gospel. Be with us all as we move forward, rejoicing with you and supporting one another. We ask this in your Holy Name. Amen.

4. Pastor Brian’s Final Sunday Message will be coming up on Sunday, August 16th as he wraps up his year of intentional interim ministry work with us. Pastor and his wife, Sheri, would like to say farewell and thank the members of St. Paul for the opportunity to serve in partnership with us. We know that many of you have expressed interest in expressing appreciation for them. Thus, we will be holding a “drive through” farewell reception for them on the 16th from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the front door of the church. We invite members to drive to the church and have a brief distanced visit to say farewell to them as our transition chapter comes to a great conclusion.

Drive Up Communion Today!

Drive Up Communion Opportunity….please join us today, Thursday, August 6, either between 10:00 and 10:45 AM, or 4:30 and 5:15 PM. During these time periods, we will provide a no contact, distanced opportunity for you to receive the Lord’s Supper. When you arrive at the church, you may drive up under the overhang from the west side entrance of the circle drive at the front entrance of the building. There will be a table that will have a basket of “communion kit” packets. You may take a packet, and drive forward. Pastor Brian will look forward to greeting you there, will offer a prayer and a scripture reading, and will share the words of institution in order to consecrate the bread and grape juice for you to receive the body and blood of Christ which has been given for you.

From Pastor Ittu!

Hello Winterset Friends,

I’m excited to make my way to you all by the end of August.

Lots of decisions happening these days to get us to September 1st and my first day as your pastor.

Deb (my fiancé) is flying into Des Moines the first weekend in August looking at houses in Winterset.  Pray with me that she finds her dream house and my LA condo sells quickly.  She is going to be able to celebrate her big sister’s birthday on August 9th while she’s out there.  Deb grew up in Des Moines and her sister now lives in Bondurant.  Deb is a marriage and family therapist.  She just started the process of closing down her therapy business in LA and getting all the professional license stuff she needs in Iowa.  She won’t likely come out to join me in Winterset till sometime this November after we get married.

For those who are wondering, we are getting married on Oct. 12th at a beach house near San Diego, CA.  COVID made things weird.  So, we are only having a small elopement style wedding with just four guests.  We decided that we will have a big renewal of vows and more traditional reception after COVID is over when we can gather 150 people safely.

I’m thankful to all the care and welcome shown to me, Deb and my mom by the Call Committee and Council.  (Mama Ittu is coming to Winterset too. Watch out for that one!)  Folks are sharing good information with me about the community.  I find myself dreaming of all we can do and different ways we can share the love God put in us.  I’m excited to get to know you and work with you.

Be well.  Be safe.  Be good to each other.

Ioan Ittu
