Epistle #79 Friday Update

1.  Look for the St. Paul Worship Service opportunity coming to you first thing this Sunday morning in Epistle #80. Pastor Brian will be sharing a message on Matthew 14:13-21, with the title of: “What Are We To Do In A Hungry World?” Also, don’t miss a moving closing musical blessing provided by worship leaders from across the state of Iowa.

2.  Lord’s Supper Opportunity! There is no meal so nourishing, life-giving and special as that of the Holy Supper of our Lord Jesus. And we so miss it when we are unable to have it! So we have set up our next Drive Up Communion Opportunity….please mark your calendar for next Thursday, August 6, from 10:00-10:45 AM, and 4:30-5:15 PM. During these time periods, we will provide a no contact, distanced opportunity for you to receive the Lord’s Supper. When you arrive at the church, you may drive up under the overhang from the west side entrance of the circle drive at the front entrance of the building. There will be a table that will have a basket of “communion kit” packets. You may take a packet, and drive forward. Pastor Brian will look forward to greeting you there, and will provide a pastoral “check-in”, offer a prayer and a scripture reading, and share the words of institution in order to consecrate the bread and grape juice for you to receive the body and blood of Christ which has been given for you through this means.

3.  Locally and globally, people are hungry these days, more than ever before as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to always accepting financial gifts designated to the ELCA World Hunger ministry, we continue to collect non-perishable food items in support of the local ministry of Matura. (MATURA Action Corporation is a Community Action Agency offering programs to the region’s low-income families and individuals.) Our shopping cart has been moved into the hallway of the church for easier access during this time. Please drop off your food donations and place them in the cart. Thank you!

4. Pastor Brian’s Final Sunday Message will be coming up on Sunday, August 16th as he wraps up his year of intentional interim ministry work with us. Pastor and his wife, Sheri, would like to say farewell and thank the members of St. Paul for the opportunity to serve in partnership with us. We know that many of you have expressed interest in expressing appreciation for them. Thus, we will be holding a “drive through” farewell reception for them on the 16th from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the front door of the church. We invite members to drive to the church and have a brief distanced visit to say farewell to them as our transition chapter comes to a great conclusion.
