Epistle #53: VBS Announcement!

Dear Friends,

This evening when we sat down to supper, my husband asked what we (myself and two sons) did today. I paused, then answered truthfully: “Nothing.” While a day of nothing can be a beautiful respite from a busy world, I think many people (and parents!) would agree that too many days of nothing threatens our mental state, productivity, and overall wellbeing.

Going from the COVID-19 school closure straight into summer can seem daunting, an endless stretch of nothing days. With many summer sports and rec programs cancelled or dramatically limited, finding a way to keep a routine and fill the days is simultaneously more important and more challenging.

However, there is one small island of normality in this sea of nonentity: Vacation Bible School! From July 13-17, I invite you and your family to share in a new online VBS experience offered from Lutheran Church of Hope. They will offer daily videos at two levels (early elementary and elementary) for music, crafts, and stories, as well as ideas for themed snacks and activities. You can organize your personal VBS schedule to suit your family; go through the rotations in the morning, do a double craft day, learn all of the songs before bed, whatever works for you!

Hope is also offering a $5 VBS kit that contains all the of essential components for the crafts, a t-shirt, activity sheets, stickers, and more. Don’t worry about digging through your closets for pipe-cleaners; they’ve got everything covered! (Scholarships are available simply by asking!)

If you have local family or friends who would like to participate but are not St. Paul members, they are absolutely welcome to join! We’re excited for all kids to experience God’s love through VBS and hope to have a socially-distant gathering during that week here in Winterset.
